Byblos- Birth place of the alphabet

Category: Middle East, Travel

It seems to be very fitting to be writing a blog from the place said to be the birth place of the alphabet don’t you think?

I am currently in Byblos in Lebanon one of the oldest known inhabited cities in the world and is steeped in history. The old souk is full of beautiful stone buildings , mosques, churches and open air restaurants and bars. After the hectic pace of the city of Beirut it feels like a little oasis of peace!

There is a public beach here, a harbour where locals while away the day fishing, it’s surrounded by lovely fresh seafood restaurants overlooking the Mediterranean and just a short stroll away you can wander into beautiful souvenir shops in the souk stocking artisan wares, ancient fossils and hand-painted pottery.. During the weekdays it is peaceful and calm but at weekends the cafes and bars are teeming with people and the atmosphere is buzzing.

If you ever find yourself in Byblos I recommend ‘Locanda a la Granda’ for some delicious fusion Lebanese food. See the below link!
